Industrial Design Degree

Industrial design degree programs train future professionals to enhance the form and function of machine-made products. Jobs in this field aim to benefit the manufacturer, the community, the consumer and the environment. While there are options for an industrial design degree online, hands-on learning in studios and laboratories is essential.

Undergraduate programs may have specific focuses such as aesthetics or engineering. Industrial design involves the visual arts and other disciplines such as sociology and business management. So practically every degree in the industrial design programs takes an interdisciplinary approach.

These are colleges that offer an industrial design degree curriculum.

Georgia Tech College of Architecture

This college's Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design degree is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

The four year program takes an interdisciplinary approach. The curriculum integrates studies in the liberal and visual arts, engineering, sciences, sociology, psychology, marketing and brand management.

The course is centered on the design studio with periodic real-life design projects. There are two common studios for freshmen. For higher years, there are six studios.

Development and manufacturing work is carried out in these studios. The course emphasizes critical thinking, design skills and design communication. Academics and design practitioners make up the faculty. Students are provided with a diverse educational background. The approach aims to develop talents who are responsive to emerging opportunities in the field.
